The 4th Brain Tumor Awareness Day In Argentina

The fourth annual “Brain Tumour Awareness Day,” took place on October  27th, 2015 in the building of the Argentine Medical Association AMA (Buenos Aires). The Argentine Association of Neurosurgery AANC; the Section of Neurooncology of the LatinAmerican Federation of Neurosurgical Societies FLANC; and SNOLA gave also their academic support to the meeting. 

During 2015, we conducted The Argentine Survey about “The accessibility to diagnostic methods and treatment of brain tumors in Argentina”; and this was the first observatory on brain tumors  performed in our region to make a situation diagnosis. The results and the analysis were reported at the 4^th Brain Tumor Awareness Day. People from different disciplines such as neurosurgery, neurooncology, pathologist, radiation therapies, palliative care and psychooncologists, and professionals of the health public areas have attended to the meeting.  We expect that would be the initial step to give academic support for quality management improvement.

The Study will be published soon in the “Revista Argentina de Cancerología”; also in the “Revista Argentina de Neurocirugía” and will be post in the website of the Society. (www. socargcancer.org.ar) . Through these efforts, we hope to continue foster education with the ultimate goal to provide an equitable neurosurgery practice for the people of Argentina.

BOGOTÁ WFNS 2021 SIMPOSIO DE LA FLANC-AANS. REUNIÓN INTERMEDIA DE LA FLANC Y IV SIMPOSIO DE PROFESORES DE LA FLANC. Bogotá, Colombia. Julio 2015

Se realizó en la ciudad de Bogotá, Colombia el congreso Bogotá WFNS 2021. 3er. Simposio de Profesores y la Reunión Intermedia de la Federación Latinoamericana de Asociaciones de Neurocirugía FLANC  y Simposio de Neurocirugía de la AANS.
Colombia es candidata para celebrar en el 2021 el Congreso Mundial de Neurocirugía y fué en éste evento que se mostró la capacidad que tiene Colombia para organizar este evento de gran nivel. El Simposio se realizó con éxito con un programa científico de alto nivel que abarcó conferencias en las diferentes sub-especialidades.

Como Capítulo pudimos presentar nuestras actividades durante el año 2014 y lo corrido del 2015.

Durante la Asamblea  se presento informe del presidente saliente Dr Marcos Maldaun , presento informe de las actividades y se destaca la conformación de la SNOLA (Sociedad de Neuroncologia de Latinoamerica) como una organización que orienta el manejo interdisciplinario incluyendo sociedades de Radioterapia y Oncología .

Se presento por parte de los Asistentes discusión acerca de la posibilidad de unificar de nuevo el capitulo de Neurocirugía Oncológica y de Base de Cráneo,  después de  reuniones con los órganos directivos de ambos capítulos se propuso  unificar reuniones científicas pero dejar los capítulos tal como están conformados, por lo tanto no se hará solicitud formal de esta propuesta .

2. IV  Simposio Internacional de Día de la Concientización en Tumores Cerebrales ( Octubre 2014) , realizado en Bucaramanga COLOMBIA, participación de varios conferencistas nacionales y apoyo presencial de Dr Valerio  y via Web de Dr Maldaun.  Este es la cuarta versión de un simposio  que apoya la Semana  Internacional de la Concientización en Tumores cerebrales que organiza la IBTA (International Brain Tumour Alliance). Se realizaron sesiones científicas interdisciplinarias , este simposio fue dirigido a neurocirujanos  y personal de salud interesado en el tema . gran éxito de asistencia y por supuesto se planea el V simposio para el 2015.

Se realizo un curso presimposio de neuronavegacion   para neurocirujanos apoyado por Brain Lab  y Medtronic

Un evento similar  en apoyo a la Semana de la concientización fue realizado por la Dra Alejandra Rabadan en Buenos Aires .que también ha realizado en 3 oportunidades .

3. IV Brain Tumor and Minimally Invasive Spine Simposium ,  Marzo 19-22 de 2015 organizado por Dr Jose Valerio ( Vicepresidente del Capitulo)  reunión con apoyo de la FLANC, y el capitulo de Neurocirugía Oncológica y primer simposio satélite de SNOLA  en  donde se realizaron charlas  de actualización en tumores cerebrales y cursos prácticos .

4. SNOLA:  El Dr Marcos Maldaun ha liderado  la formación , organización  de esta sociedad interdisciplinaria , organizando eventos en Miami ,Perú y Brasil y apoyamos el impulso de esta nueva sociedad interdisciplinaria, que  orienta el desarrollo del manejo e investigación  interdisciplinario en el campo de la Neurooncologia

Overview:

This is the fourth of a series of Brain Tumor and Minimally Invasive Spine Symposia organized by the scientific committee of (brain) spine surgeons sponsored by the Latin American Neurosurgical Society, USA/Canada directed to physicians that have a special interest or training in the field of Brain (Tumors) and Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery The committee has chosen the most frequently utilized procedures, and has designed a program of lectures and cadaver workshops, as well as live demonstrations for the (brain tumor) and MISS team.

At the completion of the Symposium, the participants will be able to identify the indications for brain tumor and minimally invasive spine surgeries, have a detailed and practical knowledge of the approaches and technical pitfalls for each of the selected procedures, and able to assess the results, prevent the risks, and manage the potential complications related to them.

Objective:

It is the objective of this Symposium to establish a forum for the discussion of topics related to MISS and newer brain surgery techniques to strengthen the level of competence of the participants.  Another objective is to establish a good communication within the surgical team that is integrated by the surgeons, nurses, OR technicians, monitoring team, radiology technicians, anesthesiologists, and rehabilitators who participate in the ultimate results of the surgical treatment of brain and spinal disorders.

About the Organizers:

The Latin American Neurosurgical Society, USA/CANADA is a North American Neurosurgical  Association by a group of American Trained and Board Certified Neurosurgeons of Latin American origin, and is chartered, and recognized by the American Association of Neurosurgical Societies, the Latin American Federation of Neurosurgical Societies, and the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies.

Its membership is made up of Neurosurgeons that practice Academic and Private Neurosurgery in the United States and its territories, and Canada. The Society comes together every year and meets at the American Association of Neurosurgical Surgeons, and every two years at the Latin American Congress of Neurosurgery. Its members participate as lecturers and trainers at the different individual Congresses of Neurosurgery of Latin America, Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
